With all the busyness of the end of the year, I have not had a chance to sit down and address the issues regarding the ending of ABC's "The Bachelor". You all know that I shamefully love watching "The Bachelor", so I hope that you thought of me during the shocking season-ending episode. :)
Several folks have asked me how I felt about the way it ended and I decided it was about time I address that question right here on the blog!
Before I give my opinion, for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, let me give a quick re-cap:
- This season's Bachelor was from Austin, Texas and he seemed like a really nice guy.
- When he narrowed the ladies down to the final two, we had NO idea which one he would pick since he was clearly deeply in love with both of them, based on his own words during the show.
- In the last episode, he was supposed to pick one of the girls and instead he chose neither girl. Not only did he not chose one of them, he also decided that he did not want to continue either relationship (as in, continue dating), leaving both girls confused and broken-hearted.
Okay, now that we have the summary out of the way, here are my thoughts . . .
If Brad had just simply decided that he was not in love with either of these girls, and thus could not chose either of them at the end, I would have respected that.
HOWEVER, he COMPLETELY led BOTH of these ladies to believe that he was ready to marry them! WHY did he lead them on like that?! Stan says is is because the producers told him to do that. If so, he's an even bigger dog than I give him credit for!
I have no problem with the fact that he did not end up choosing either girl. I think that, considering that he now says he couldn't see a future with either one, it was the right decision. Of course, I would not want him moving forward with a woman he wasn't interested in. But to very seriously convey to both women that he COULD see a future with them, and then to break both of their hearts, that was just so wrong!
So, that is my opinion. I would love to know what you other Bachelor fans thought. I am over it now, but I felt completely cheated at the end of the show. How did you feel?

Well, I have a few thoughts on that myself. First, WHY did he fly Deanna's dad out there so he could ask permission if he had no intention to atleast consider dating her to find out if she was the one.
I think he has a commitment issue if not something bigger and was scared by the possiblity of it working.
He could have continued to date Deanna and if it didn't work out. Let it go!
The other shocking thing, is that Deanna knew that neither of them were chosen but the other girl, Jenni, had no clue until the day she saw it on tv. I don't know which one is worse!
It really was a waste of a lot of hours but Stan is right, they must have made him continue to act like he was going to pick one.
So retarded. Hollywood is just plum retarded. And by the way, do ya want to get together for dinner the night of the 21st? In Austin? My treat!
Hey Stacy!! I hope you remember me, its Judi (you did my wedding in Oct 05 and then my sisters this July). I'm now a regular blog reader of yours.
I am also a HUGE Bachelor fan--and I think he did the right thing. To me it seemed like he committed fully to the process of trying to develop each relationship with the two girls. Once it came to be decision time, I think he concluded that neither relationship was for him. I think he did the right thing by not leading either of the girls on.
By the way I read about a recent interview he did on Ellen--he did not request that Deanna's dad be flown out, that was the decision of the Producer.

I spent five weeks in LA a couple of years ago "starring" in a reality TV show. NONE OF IT IS REAL. Stan is right.
The star has a contract with the production company. They have a legal obligation to make the producer happy.
see... i used to believe in the Bachelor. i haven't watched it since the season with Moana and blah blah. i felt cheated then.
True Story: i went into LABOR during the 2hour premiere 3 years ago and would NOT go to the hospital until it was over. i was having contractions every 7 minutes! ABSURD
anyway, i think the show has turned toward more of a staged-entertainment show than reality television.
although, i did read an article a few seasons ago about how they don't understand how these people can say they are in love with each other when in reality... they spend only a few quality HOURS together during the entire taping.
i don't own a television anymore. so i don't have to torment myself with why they picked the wrong girl. or, in this case, why they just wasted WEEKS of my time for nothing.
btw, do you know what happened to the NY guy? the brother of Jerry O'Connell? That was the best couple, in my opinion. Trisha had her baby. and everyone else has broken up. bummer.

LOLOLOL. I love that you blogged about this! I was hooked the whole season too and yeah, what a shocker of an ending. I do feel for him in the sense of, I don't want to ever be torn between two guys, and if I was, I wouldn't want one or the other either because I want my heart to only be completely for one person. But I agree with you that he TOTALLY led each of them on and that was wrong in every way!
Then again, the whole show is one big lead on because the whole concept of dating 25 girls at once is just idiotic to me. Yet, I still watch it for some reason! ;-)
