Stan and I are back in Austin and are doing okay. We've had, by far, the most trying week of our lives, but it's in times like this that recognize how deeply blessed we are to have the love and support of so many of our family and friends.

I am sure that in the future I will open up a bit more about what's been going on, but for now I'll just say that our family is going through a very tough experience right now and we have quite a road ahead of us. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Life is not always easy or fun and difficult times do come, but we are committed to continuing to love and serve all of our clients, family, and friends with our whole hearts now and always.

Thank you for loving us.

Many hugs and much love,
Stacy and StanStacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-9352647031429664112008-02-24T06:41:00.000-08:002008-02-24T06:44:22.773-08:00Out of the OfficeHey guys - I just wanted to let you all know that, due to an unexpected family emergency, Stan and I will be out of town (and thus, out of the office) from Sunday, February 24th through Wednesday, February 27th. While you were enjoying a movie or nice dinner with friends, Stan and I were at the rockin-est party of the night: Cheryl & Jason's Wedding! Hooray!

They had an incredibly beautiful and classy event beginning with a lovely ceremony at University Christian Church and a killer reception at the University of Texas Union Ballroom. Every detail was beautifully chosen and every moment of the day was gracefully coordinated by Kathie Millen and her crew from Austin Wedding Planners. Here are a few of my favorites from their day.

I LOVE this moment - Cheryl's dad giving her away

Their cake was about 20 feet tall and truly breathtaking. We met at Camp Allen and were instant friends. When she moved away to UT, I basically made her dorm room my 2nd home and took as many trips as possible to Austin to see she and our other Longhorn friends.

Kate is a huge part of the reason why I decided to come to Austin and attend the University of Texas after I graduated high school. She's an even bigger reason that I lived at SRD (Scottish Rite Dormitory) my freshman year of college and there's so much GOOD in my life now that has come from that time. I have Kate to thank for helping pave the way for a very happy and successful college experience for me. Beyond all of that, I truly LOVE and enjoy the heck out of her! She is one of my funniest friends EVER and we have so many incredible memories together!

Needless to say, I was unbelievably honored when I received an enthusiastic phone call from Kate, letting me know that she had gotten engaged and that she wanted me to be her wedding photographer! I was (and still am) completely beside myself at the thought of shooting Kate's wedding. It is a huge honor to get to share her day with her.

Then came Davis. Davis and I didn't meet until the other day when we got together for their engagement session. WOW. He is PERFECT for Kate. Davis is a kind, classy, funny, intelligent, good-lookin' guy and I am so thrilled that he has asked my friend to marry him. I 110% approve of Kate's choice in a husband! What a great match!

Anyway, I know I've blah blah blahed enough - here are some of my favorites from their session . . .

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-16464405912373236672008-02-19T06:42:00.000-08:002008-02-19T07:12:16.510-08:00Stacy and Coffee . . . .<3 BFF. <3

I love coffee! It's funny because just a few years ago I could not stand the taste of coffee, much less enjoy it. It was not until I started Nursing school that I actually forced myself to drink coffee during the long study hours I suddenly had to endure. After several months of drinking coffee, I found that I actually enjoyed it. And now? I am a coffee maniac! I seriously love it. Now, I'm still kind of a coffee baby, because I definitely have to have the fru-fru coffee with lots of good stuff in it. But I love it, nonetheless!

Starbucks is my one big weakness right now. My drink (venti sugar-free hazelnut soy-milk latte) is not only incredibly delicious but it's actually good for me! I get a serving and a half of my calcium for the day, which otherwise is difficult for me to get, since I don't drink cow's milk much anymore. However, the painful side to all of this is that my favorite drink also costs $4.60! Gheeze. Soooooo . . . . I've decided to start making this exact drink for myself at home. I'm going to the grocery store to find some sugar-free syrups and I've already purchased the starbucks coffee. I always have soy milk in my fridge, so all I need is a steamer. I am planning to go by Bed Bath and Beyond sometime today to purchase that. It may be a big investment up-front for all of this stuff, but I figure it will save me somewhere around a gajillion dollars in the long-run, so it's worth it!

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-83462993427017157132008-02-15T09:14:00.003-08:002008-02-15T14:10:41.038-08:00What I'm listening to right nowMan, I am such a sucker for a smooth R&B song. I tried to imagine what my reaction would be if Stan just decided to go out and buy some diamonds behind my back and bring them home to surprise me. Every time I play through this scenario in my mind, it always turns out pretty bad. I know myself and I think that Stan knows me well enough to NOT do that. :) Diamonds mean nothing to me (except for my incredibly beautiful wedding rings, which hold tremendous sentimental value) and candy will only make me miserable!

As I was thinking about what Valentine's Day would be like this year, I was filled with a deep sense of gratitude and joy. Our kitchen will literally be finished TODAY after many months of construction and many dollars reluctantly spent. :) It really looks amazing and it's so exciting to see our dreams for our little kitchen come together (I'll share pictures soon!). This year, Stan and I have decided to stay home and cook (we have not been able to cook in our home in over 3 months) a delicious gourmet meal in our brand new kitchen! There is no other way in the world that I would rather spend this Valentine's Day!

No, we're not big on all the Valentine's hoopla, but we do think it's nice to do something special to recognize how truly blessed we've been in love. This year we will celebrate 5 years of marriage and it has been one crazy whirlwind of joy, laughter, growth, challenges, and learning. I would not go back and change one single thing. I love Stan so much and I am so thankful that every year, for the rest of my life, I get to have hunky Stan Cross as my Valentine. :) I am the luckiest girl in the world!

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-27229783926813161632008-02-12T06:42:00.000-08:002008-02-12T07:03:50.602-08:00Todd & Paula: Engaged! All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love. love. Love is all you need.

Ahhhh. How cute are Todd and Paula?!?!?! They are totally in love and it's incredible. Todd is one of Stan's very best friends and Stan will be a groomsman in Todd & Paula's wedding in June, while I get to be their photographer - hoooray!!! :)

Todd and Paula's love is also an answer to prayer. :) Stan really loves Todd and has always thought he was this totally incredible dude and was greatly deserving of an equally awesome girl, but the right lady never came along - until now. Paula is soooooo lovely. She has the biggest heart of probably anyone I've ever met and the girl is sassy, fun, and beautiful. She makes Todd smile - a LOT. All of these things were qualities that Stan prayed would be found in a lady for Todd and his prayers were answered!
(This is how Stan claims responsibility for their relationship! :) )

Anyway, here are a few of my favorites from their engagement session. To pump up the cute factor about 100%, Todd and Paula are not kissing until their wedding day (ummmm......hope that wasn't a secret, guys!) and it made for a very fun time of finding unique ways to demonstrate closeness without kisses - loved it! :) These were taken in gorgeous Wimberley, Texas, where Todd asked Paula to be his wife. Awwww.

This is really more of an outtake, but I thought it was hilarious, so I had to share! (See update at bottom!)This week I will be posting the entries for the blog contest and you're going to be VERY surprised! :) I was!!! Here is entry #1, from Cortney Smith. :)

How do you get a quiet middle school coach to smile? Our family is
separated by more than 1500 miles and with a new baby that we do not get
to see nearly enough. We knew that a summer vacation trip to Texas was
the perfect opportunity to get some much needed family pictures.

Mat is usually quiet and reserved and has been surrounded by a new
family of talkers! Our session with Stacy Cross was just plain fun! We
got the chance to play around and Stacy somehow captured the goofy, fun
Mat that we love. Our family will treasure more than just the beautiful
pictures. We will always remember the terrific day that was complete
with smiles, geese, laughing, a bloody toe, and a lot of love.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

OKAY! Well, thanks to everyone who was faithful to vote! :) I will keep you in suspense no longer . . . .

The winner of the blog contest is . . . . . **DRUM ROLL PLEASE** . . . . CORTNEY SMITH!!!!!

God bless her - she is the ONLY one who entered the contest!! ; ) What's up with that, people?! With all my brides and grooms who tell me they check the blog all the time, I coudn't believe we didn't have at least 10 or so entries! Ah well - all that matters is that Cortney won and I am SOOOOOOOO happy for her because she's also one of my best buds! Way to go, Cort!!

Love yall,
StacyStacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-38498754938344217902008-02-09T13:34:00.000-08:002008-02-09T14:06:30.537-08:00In a moment . . .This is part of why I love what I do. Anytime I'm shooting - whether at a wedding, or an engagement session - I get to experience the most incredible feeling when I see a significant moment and I capture it. I love the feeling of knowing that something awesome has happened with the simple click of my shutter.

I often get goosebumps when I know that a picture I just captured is going to be great simply because the moment was perfect. I think about those images for the rest of the day and I just cannot wait to see them when I get home! Here's just a couple of moments recently that have taken my breath away. There are so many of these from each wedding and portrait session and I fall so in love with these moments that it somehow just becomes overwhelming to try to even blog them.

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-58809482691730845262008-02-07T21:17:00.000-08:002008-02-07T21:38:04.470-08:00Blog SchmogUgh. I think I'm going through a phase of Blog-funk lately. Every time I sit down to blog, I can't think of anything good to say and though I have lots of great pics to share, I'm just kind of "blah" about the whole thing.

I am soooo sorry for my lack of blogging lately! I will try my hardest to get better - I promise! :)

To begin the process of my getting better about blogging, I thought I would ease into things by showing you just a few pics from Jerri & Dan's lovely wedding last weekend in Concan, Texas.

If you've never been to Concan, Texas, don't feel bad. I had never even heard of it before, but Stan and I were very excited at the thought of venturing into a new place, not at all knowing what to expect. For one thing, Concan has MOUNTAINS. Yes. Mountains in Texas! Well, Stan says that they're technically just hills, but they look like Mountains from far away, so I am calling them mountains! :) Concan is a charming, beautiful place about 3 hours driving distance from Austin. We enjoyed driving through the wide open fields of the Texas country and were reminded of how small our own little world really is.

Jerri called us about 2 weeks ago asking if we would pleeeeease shoot her wedding since there had been a miscommunication with their wedding photographer who thought that their wedding was a week later than planned. We were all lucky that not much was going on last weekend and we could shoot her wedding. I am SO glad that it all worked out - we had a blast!

To top it all off, Jerri & Dan were actually already married because they live overseas and, for safety purposes, were married last August. Sing it with me: "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes . . . . " That's right! Jerri and Dan are expecting their first baby in May and they couldn't be more excited! :) It was so sweet to see how thrilled they are for all of the new and exciting changes that have taken place in their lives over the last few months. We are so happy for them!

And I know I post flowers a lot, but they are my favorite part of a wedding, so I can't help it!

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-77867671438085097022008-02-05T16:57:00.000-08:002008-02-05T16:59:27.514-08:00PSA: Internet issuesHey guys!

Just wanted to write a quick note and let you all know that we've been without internet (or email) access for 4 days, but we're back in action now. :) Thank you for your patience as we play catch-up with our emails and Blogging.

Much love,
StacyStacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-53283464077456319192008-02-02T08:54:00.000-08:002008-02-02T09:45:25.601-08:00Greg & Anne: Engaged!Aaaggghhh! Stan and I have NO good pictures of the two of us together! This is why I can't wait until we're in San Diego in June, when the fabulous Jeff & Erin will be shooting some pictures of us. Seriously. This is rediculous. Everytime we take a picture, it's a self-portrait, so my face and neck are all scrunched back like this and then Stan (God bless him) ALWAYS makes a funny face! I can't wait until there's someone in front of the camera who can say "you guys look like idiots". :)

One reason I really love Engagement pictures is because couples tell me ALL the time that they have no good pictures of the two of them together and I love getting the chance to make that happen for them!

Anyway, this is a picture from our nephew Ben's 1st Birthday party this weekend. The whole fam was in town (except Stan's dad who was sick as a dog - get well soon Stan III!) and it was sooo fun! More fun pics coming . . . sometime. ; )Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-71565069007041234282008-01-30T07:37:00.000-08:002008-01-30T08:18:07.410-08:00Why does it matter? (philosophical ramblings coming your way) :)I always seem to have personal breakthroughs at the most unexpected times. :)

This morning I was getting some work done and decided I would check the gym schedule quickly to plan when I would get to the gym today. As I looked over the day's schedule, I noticed that a really fun step class was starting in 15 minutes.

I sat and thought for a moment: Can I make it? The gym is 10 minutes away, I'm in my PJs and I haven't even brushed my teeth yet. YES! I'm going!

With that, I was off, running around the house like a wind tunnel - scooping up my shoes, my sweats, my towel . . . running to fill a water bottle, throwing a toothbrush in my mouth, and (somewhat dangerously) tossing my contacts in. I ran out to my car, hopped in, and drove off! As I drove to the gym I congratulated myself for beating the clock and choosing to work out.

Then I suddenly had a thought: Why does it matter? Why does it matter to me that I go to the gym. It was the first time in my WHOLE life that the answer wasn't "I want to be skinny" or "I NEED to lose weight!" The answer was simple: I want to be better.

I want to be a better me. In EVERY area. I want to be healthy and strong physically, mentally, and spiritually. I want to be the BEST me I can be.

But why?

And then this unfamiliar thought came to me. I've NEVER thought about it this before, so it shocked me.

I want to be the best I can be so that I can stop worrying about ME. I want to take my own focus off of myself so that I can focus my attention on the needs of others.

Now, it's not like I've never thought of others before. But this was different. I feel that, as girls, we are taught at a very early age to spend a lot of time and energy on ourselves. We are taught that we need to look, act, feel, smell, and talk a certain way. As teenagers, we spend SO much energy in a fruitless attempt to perfect ourselves. As young adults, we get caught up in our careers and the desire to maintain the image of having it all together. We spend SO much time working on ourselves.

Well, I'm done with that. I'm tired of worrying about me all the time. I want to give myself - my time, my energy, my heart - to greater things. I think this must be what it's like to grow up.

Now I am getting ready to go on with the rest of my day. I'll be returning emails, editing pictures, designing albums, doing school work, and the other millions of things I have on my list. Life goes on - you can't stay in a breakthrough moment forever, but you can live it. I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like to live this breakthrough. :)Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-3863634407313242172008-01-28T18:20:00.000-08:002008-01-28T18:26:59.072-08:00Introducing Jude!Being a gangsta baby ain't easy.

The other day I shot some portraits of the insanely cute brand new baby Jude. He was so great, but my favorite thing about him was that he kept throwing gang signs and staring me down. Then he put on his hoodie. I loved watching the way the looked at each other and the subtle, quite moments of affection that they shared. As they stood together, mingling with family members, Garrett would softly place just the tips of his fingers on the back of Rebecca's neck and lovingly trace the path down the length of her arm. Rebecca would make her way to the other side of the room to greet another guest, but not without stopping to gently nuzzle her new husband's cheek on her way. Love is a wonderful thing!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from Garrett and Rebecca's awesome wedding! I actually was the assistant photographer at this particular wedding because my dear friend Kellie from Anne Marie Photography asked if I could tag along! :) I was delighted to be a part of it and I truly enjoyed every minute!

Look at this gorgeous couple!

Their first look. :)

I love this picture of Rebecca's mom and dad walking her down the isle.

Kellie let me play with her 15/2.8 lens. When I listen to his recorded speeches, my heart and my mind agree that the very words he spoke mirrored God's true heart for humanity. When I try to describe how deeply his words speak to me, I am at a loss.

Today, as we celebrate the life of this amazing man, my prayer is that you and I would fight for freedom and justice every day of our lives. I pray that we would never become numb to the needs of those around us or blind to the places where freedom does not yet reign. My hope is that we will speak on behalf of those without a voice and that we would each find the cause for which we are called to fight.Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-32514787047604290072008-01-21T13:06:00.000-08:002008-01-21T13:29:13.532-08:00Last call, you fabulous Seniors!!Hey Seniors -

Just a reminder that if you still want to have your Senior Portraits done, I need to hear from you this week to set up an appointment before I get really really busy! :)

Hugs,
Stacy

Stacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-23010121342582905922008-01-18T11:47:00.000-08:002008-01-25T21:01:33.232-08:00*** Blog Contest Time! Now, I have not lost as much weight as I was hoping to, but I have lost a little. :)

This is really 2 updates in 1 because a lot of the struggles I've had with our house situation have taught me some important health tips for people who are A) really busy and B) don't have a kitchen! :)

To catch everyone up, we did some MAJOR renovations to our house this fall/winter and it looks amazing. We are soooo pleased! However, we were told it would take about three weeks and we were out of our house for over 2 months! We stayed with some incredibly gracious friends and family during that time and now we're back in the house and loving it! There's still not really a kitchen yet because none of our appliances can go back in without our counter top. The whole world is in the hands of the counter top people, but we're doing just fine right now and this gives us some time to move all of our furniture back in!

Anyway, I wanted to share a few tips with you guys about trying to eat healthy in the midst of chaos. I hope this will help someone!

1) We've been doing a LOT of eating at restaurants. Enough to make me gain 20 lbs if I wanted to. However, I've learned that if I make a rule for myself regarding restaurants, then I do pretty well. Here's the rule: Salad, soup, grilled anything, pasta. In that order. I browse the menu, looking for their salads first. If I don't like the sound of any of the salads, I then go to the soups. If none of the soups sound good to me, I can then look for grilled ___________ (for me, it's usually some kind of fish). And if after ALL of that, nothing looks good, I can get a pasta dish with a marinara sauce and eat half of it. I almost never get to the pasta dish, but if I do, I am guaranteed to find something I'll love! :) (Who doesn't want pasta?!)

2) Always carry something in your pocket/purse. I found out during this last couple of weeks (the hard way) that if I ever let myself get to the "I'm starving" point, then I will eat anything and everything that crosses my path. Now, instead of letting that happen, I stick something in my purse every day - whether it be an orange, a granola bar, some prunes (personal fav), or something else, I have something I can eat if I get really really hungry. It doesn't necessarily even have to be something super low fat as long as it's a small snack and can tide you over until the next meal.

3) Chart your progress. If you guys haven't heard of it yet, I wanted to introduce you to Calorie Count. Man - this site is awesome! You can track everything from your weight loss goals to your calories consumed and your exercise on this site. It's FREE and I love it - check it out!

4) Forgive yourself. I cannot tell you how many times I used to eat something bad for lunch and then say "Oh, heck, the whole day is ruined, I might as well eat whatever I want." Then I would spend the entire following day scolding myself for such erratic behavior! :) Those days are gone. Now, if I make a bad eating decision, I just go ahead and forgive myself right away. I try to think of WHY I chose that thing and what was going on in my mind when I made that decision. I tell myself to move on and I don't let it ruin the rest of my day. I won't be controlled by food in ANY way. This has been a very important and very big change for me!

Well, I hope this has helped someone! :) How are you guys doing with getting healthy in 2008? :)

Love
StacyStacy Crosshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17002914791232384608noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36498899.post-4934718199837161382008-01-16T16:41:00.000-08:002008-01-25T21:01:20.262-08:00Marcus & Jennie's Wedding! What an AWESOME time we had a Marcus and Jennie's wedding! We LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE these guys (sorry if my enthusiasm for my brides and grooms is annoying to anyone - too bad - I love them!) and spending the whole day with them was just great.

When I showed up to the wedding, Jennie asked me something about if I like them as much as Eugenie and Starr- this made me laugh so hard! I assured her that I loved she and Marcus just as much as Eugenie & Starr (but barely! ;) ) which is HUGE because I really love Eugenie and Starr! :)

All I know is that the beginning of 2008 has been REALLY good to us. The two weddings we shot this month were a DREAM to be a part of and we just can't wait for more! :) Having said that, we have a month, which is kind of unheard of for us, before our next wedding! This will be a good break for me to catch back up on blogging (sorry for my negligence) so expect to hear a lot from me over the next few weeks. :) I have a couple of weddings and portrait sessions to blog so stay tuned!

Anyway - back to Jennie and Marcus! Jennie and I knew each other in college through our mutual best friend, Meredith. Meredith was the maid of honor in MY wedding and last weekend, she was one of Jennie's maids of honor (she had one maid and one matron). It was very fun to see quite a few familiar faces from college!

Here are a few of my favs from the day!

Jennie & Marcus decided to see one another before the wedding so that they could save time between their ceremony and reception.
